The American Chemical Society (ACS) is a scientific society that supports scientific inquiry in the field of chemistry, chemical engineering, and related fields. Founded in 1876 at New York University. It is one of the world's largest scientific society by membership, i.e. 155,000 members at all degree levels. The ACS holds national meetings twice a year and also holds smaller conferences concentrating on specific chemical fields or geographic regions. Around 500 active student chapters including around 90 international student chapter.
Central Scientific Instruments Organisation (CSIO), a constituent unit of Council of Scientific & Industrial Research (CSIR), is a premier national laboratory dedicated to research, design and development of scientific and industrial instruments. It is a multi-disciplinary and multi-dimensional apex industrial research & development organisation in the country to stimulate growth of Instrument Industry in India covering wide range and applications. Large number of instruments ranging from simple to highly sophisticated ones, have been designed and developed by the Institute and their know-hows have been passed on to the industry for commercial exploitation.
Established in April 2020, the ACS International Student Chapter at CSIR-CSIO, Chandigarh, stands as a vibrant hub of academic and professional engagement. Guided by esteemed faculty advisors Dr. Suman Singh and Dr. Akash Deep, the chapter has swiftly flourished under their mentorship. With an executive team comprising six dedicated members and a spirited cohort of over twenty ACS members and volunteers, the chapter has organized an impressive array of events since its inception. Bolstered by grants such as the Student Chapter Starter Grant of $300 and the Students Community Engagement Grant of $1000, the chapter has garnered recognition, notably receiving the Commendable Student Chapter Award in 2020. Demonstrating its commitment to advancing scientific discourse, the chapter has raised substantial funds totaling ₹2,60,000+, solidifying its position as a dynamic force within the academic community.
